Oh yeah! Going to see Rush...again! Got reasonably good seats in the 2nd price range (still $190 for the pair after all the Ticketbastard charges -- $15.50 per ticket convenience charge!!!).

So, I tried to buy tickets through the fan club pre-sale. I was on-line right at 10:00 when they went on sale. I asked for 2 tickets. Got crappy ones. Gave them up. Tried again. And it was already sold out! What? The fan club must have had, like, three pair to sell.

Thankfully, I also have an Amex card. Got better seats than the fan club offer, ten minutes later, through the Front of the Line program.

Ugh...those arent' cheap. $30 to Ticketmaster to boot? Oh well, I have little doubt it was money well spent. Enjoy the show...
Geez, I wonder how close they're coming to my neck of the woods?

How come I can say Ticketbastard, but we can't say *****es Brew or Donald ***an? :confused5:

Kex, the $190 that I paid is expensive, but top tickets would have cost me about $270 after charges. Since this will be my 8th or 9th time seeing them (enough that I've lost count), I don't need to spend almost $300. It'll be worth it. They always ROCK!

I saw them in Halifax a few years back, for some reason I think we paid $60-$80 or so....Floor seats not super close but I could throw a snowball at Geddy Lee. Not that I would. Not a good way to meet someone.

Actually if I wanted to meet him, I could buy those super expensive seats behind home plate at Rogers Centre - Geddy Lee is on the Jays highlights most nights, he's a huge Jays fan and sits just to the left of the catcher in the second or 3rd row.

Congrats FA. But WOW! Tickets are too high these days.
Rush just played a few miles from here last week. I missed them. Already seen them , ah, 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 ,6,... uh, a bunch of times.

Really? Good to know. I have a friend who just got a part-time job selling beer in the stands at Skydome (it'll always be Skydome to me). I'll have to tell him to grab that section if he can and try to meet Geddy.

What if my dog is female? Doesn't anyone care about that?

Experiment: Can I call my rooster a cock? Can I call my donkey an ass?

Edit: yes and yes. But I can't call my female dog a *****. Where's the sense in that???

I wouldn't pay that much to see ANY band, much less a bunch of washed up old progsters like Rush. Can I afford it? Sure I can, but no band is worth that much...ok, perhaps if Jimi Hendrix or Janice Joplin came back to life I would pay that much, but that's not going to happen. Let's see...$15.00 to see the Decemberists on a Saturday night, and no service charges or anything. Now that was a show worth seeing and one that I'd have paid triple that amount to see. $190? You have to be insane. Oh, now wait. You are insane.

Wooooohooooooooo, Geddy up and enjoy that show ForeverAutumn!!

How's the newest offering from our Canadian sons?? Worth a listen, I'm sure.

Speaking of old geezers... Just picked up a RaveRec thread Recdn --the NIN's latest from Trent and I am bowled over -- it is outstanding. Just when I thought he had spent his creative energy years ago, he surprises me with this.

Hope San D. was all you expected and then, some.

...so I guess she's still in San Diego and I know she doesn't have a laptop any longer, so she can't visit here until she's back. She can pay whatever she likes to see them, but I was sincere in that I would NEVER pay that to see any band. I'd rather throw on a CD, have a nice dinner, then kick back with a 2003 Partagas Edicion Limitada and a glass of Troegs Pale Ale, and enjoy myself way more and would still have money left to buy a few more cds or whatever. I really don't like Rush, but that is secondary to what I was ranting about. Maybe I would spend that much if Geddy Lee washed my car and cleaned my garage after the show.

I dunno, $190.00 isn't that much. I can see paying that for Floyd or the Stones, maybe VH or the mighty Zep...any grouping of some serious musical talent combined with awesome showmanship.

I think I'm getting old. I'd love to see the guys one more time, but I just can't seem to get motivated to do it. $200 for tickets, a 3 hour drive, taking 2 days off of work....meh. I think I'd just rather put in my Rush DVD's and crank the surround sound :)

I've never paid that much to see a band, and won't. I just can't justify it, and don't believe any band is worth it, and you won't convince me that it is. If you want to waste money on them, go for, but I won't. Like I said, I can well afford it, but I would rather spend it on something useful, like new music, good wine, Cuban cigars, pale ale....

Both the Troegs Pale and the Partagas Limitada sound mighty fine.

Currently enjoying a cuban Bolivar No.2 paired with a really fine Shiraz -- I just love to travel the world without having to move far from my humidor or my chair... Once of the best days in the far north so far, 24 Celsius.

By the way, how many Partagas can you buy with $190.00 Canadian? or how many cuban Bolivars can you buy, Swish?? Oh, I forgot - zero - down south...hehhehehhehhe.

Cheers,

...that I have a contact who is a Cuban diplomat, and we get Cuban cigars from him quite often. I currently have about half a box of the 2003 Partagas Edicion Limitada, a bunch of Partagas # 2s, along with some Montecristo # 2s, all 100% Cuban, and I'll wager that I paid a lot less for them than you did in Canada. I saw the prices on them when I was in Toronto last spring, and the Monte's were going for $27 Canadian each! I get them here for $10 US, although they aren't always available. Who's your daddy!

Ya know, I think I paid $150 US plus $20 for service charges and mailing for my Woodstock '99 tickets. That was 3 days, and we got to see such powerhouses of rock like Creed, Jamiroquai, and Jewel included in that price.

Of course, water was going for the same rate as a dime bag but if you didn't eat or drink for 3 days it would have been cheaper than the Rush show.

San Diego was magnificent. What a beautiful city! I didn't have nearly enough time there and I will definately be back. I think that they got 50% of their annual rainfall in one day that we were there, but it was the one day that we had business meetings all day, so no-one really cared. And I picked up a little bout of food poisening on my last night there, so if I don't count the meals that I didn't get to keep, the last time that I ate was lunch on Saturday. On the bright side, I get to stay home today and catch up on things here and on the shows that I had to tape while I was away.

BTW, I picked up your book rec. I was hoping to read it on the beach, but there wasn't time for that. Thanks again for the rec and the invite...I'm sure it was fascinating.

I saw Rush for $9.00.

I just looked up my first Rush concert ticket. In 1982 I paid $12.50. If I do the math for the cost of the ticket as a per cent of my income then and now, it's almost the same. So it's all relative I guess.

Those days are definately done. My husband first saw Rush at Massey Hall (seats about 2700). And although some here may consider this band a bunch of old geezers, these old geezers still regularly sell out the Air Canada Centre (19,000 seats plus the floor). Tickets to their Sept. show here sold out the same day that they went on sale to the general public...even at those high prices.

I remember tickets went on sale for Rush years ago 30 minutes before I got off work. The show was in Madison Square Garden. I think this place holds in the 50,000 range but I'm not sure. Well, when I got off work I went straight to Ticketron. Too late, sold out.

A week later another show was announced. I took off work and waited at Ticketron all morning. First in line, I tell the guy that the moment they go on sale I want to buy them. The guy was cool and had all the info typed in and ready for 11:00. As soon as it turned 11:00 he hit the enter key. I still ended up in row 14.

Edit: Oops. Looks like it's more in the 40k range.
