Whatever happened to this guy? Despite my demurrals that I didn't think I'd be a regular here again, I've pretty much fallen back into old habits, but I haven't seen him around. I suppose a quick scouring of the archives could turn up some info, but I feel too lazy to do that right now. Anyway, if memory serves, he's a middle school teacher or some such up there in the hinterlands, which I always thought was pretty cool. I mean, who ever had a teacher that was into rad obscure punk music? Not me, that's for sure. I remember that he always made really listenable comps as well, and turned me on to some cool stuff that is still in my collection like Dealership and Hawksley Workman.

So anyway, there isn't really a point to this thread other than to say: Bill, if you still check in on this forum, You Are Appreciated!

Bill doesn't come around here much any more. But I exchanged emails with him a couple of weeks ago and I can report that he's alive and well.

Your post is very nice Rae, I'll do a cut and paste and forward it to him to see whether we can entice him back. Cheers!

Rae, did you get the last Dealership album, Action/Adventure? I have TV Highway To The Stars but didn't get the 2004 release. The website says to anticipate a release in 2007.

I think I even comped Toujours Ta Fille to try to spread the word. Cool little band.

Oh, and I agree that having Audiobill around would be a great thing.

Nice to know you're thinking of me kind & gentle RR folks!!

I've been taking a break, admittedly somewhat long, from the board. A variety of reasons, I won't bore you with the details, but it seems to be life has been getting in the way of raw musical enjoyment. Any way, Rae is right: it's about time I got back into the board and all the cool things it has to offer.

I've been really enjoying the latest offerings from the following bands: Ray Lamontagne, The Fratellis, Junior Boys (our local exports), Sparklehorse, and I'm From Barcelona.

Also, I've been spending tons of time exploring Greek music, Cuban cigars, Sierra Leonean child soldiers, German automobiles, and european retirement options (for the future, of course).

As for middle school, it's high school, and I still like to surprise a new student with more information about the punk t-shirt they're sporting than they expect their teacher to know.

Feels good to be back!!

...with a 2003 PartagasTradicione Especial, but it appears you only needed to nag him a wee bit. :)

I happened to visit with Bill and his wife last year spring, along with FA and her husband, and BarryL to boot, and we had a blast. Well, I know I did, and I posted a rather lengthy, and mostly fictional, journal of my misadventures there. Since you were MIA at that time, I'm sure you didn't catch that Rae.

That's BarryL to you. And after he gave you that nice Flower Kings CD and everything. :ciappa:

And that's exactly what I typed. After you pointed out my faux pas. :ciappa: Maybe that was a Freudian slip because he foisted that prog CD upon me!

Cool! Glad to know you're still around. I must've missed out on that last one from Sparklehorse... how does it compare to their other stuff?

Jim, TV Highway to the Stars is the only one I have in my collection as well. I'm not sure if I would need any more stuff from them but it is a nice little indie pop record in its own right. Let me know if you pick up any others that really blow you away.

Hey, Rae.

The new one (2006) from Sparklehorse is as good as any in their catalogue. If you'll recall It's A Wonderful Life was their last one and imho this one measures up. Very cool imagery and a nice blend of out and out rockers mixed with tender ballads. By the way, it has a doozy of a title: Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain.

Mike, from England, might be able to shed more light, since I believe he's had it longer than me. Are you there, Mike??

Cheers,

Bill

Hey jar.

Still listening to several comps from your laboratory, man. I, especially, like this line-up from one of your experiments of yore:

03 Fugazi - Caustic Acrostic (1998)
04 Hum - Ms. Lazarus (1997)
05 Arcwelder - All Mixed Together (1994)
06 Rodan - Guage (1994)
07 Sonic Youth - Genetic (1992)
08 Joy Division - Passover (1980)
09 Husker Du - The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill (1985)

What new bands are you mixing these days?? or has the kid taken up all of your spare time?

Hi Bill.. I just listened to that one recently too.. I forgot who I sent it to. Haven't had a whole lot of time for new stuff... a few "new new" things and a few "new old" things.. my latest hybrid is called DREAMS ARE FREE and it goes like this:

01 TV On The Radio - Hours (EL-P Mix) - Return to Cookie Mtn.
02 Super Furry Animals - Psyclone! - Love Kraft
03 Menthol - Strange Living - Danger! Rock Science
04 Guided By Voices - The Brides Have Hit Glass - Isolation Drills
05 Cooper Temple Clause - Blind Pilots - Kick up the Fire, Let the Flames Break Loose
06 Valina - Ship To Escape - Vagabond
07 Built to Spill - Conventional Wisdom - You in Reverse
08 The Wedding Present - It's A Gas - Watusi
09 Game Theory - Shark Pretty - Distortion
10 Islands - Rough Gem - Return to the Sea
11 Editors - Blood - The Back Room
12 Interpol - Slow Hands - Antics
13 Mission of Burma - Man in Decline - Obliterati
14 The Clean - Billy Two - Anthology
15 Snow Patrol - You Are All That I Have - Eyes Open
16 Secret Machines - Nowhere Again - Now Here Is Nowhere
17 The Appleseed Cast - Silas' Knife - Peregrine
18 The Flaming Lips - My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion - At War With the Mystics
19 TV On The Radio - Dreams - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes

yea, I'm quite fond of TV On The Radio... just when you think rock music has run it's course, along comes a band that breathes some new life into things..

I'll let you know when I have it ready.. it's in the mixing phase right now. I also have a Minutemen comp in the works... I've been trying to get that together for years now, and it's just about finished.

take it easy..
