I would like to run another subwoofer in my HT, but i don't have a second sub out. can i split the signal from one to the other? Or do i split it from the receiver then into both subs?:5:

The best way to do it is to get two subs that have pre-outs for running in parallel. You just connect from your subwoofer out to the in on the first sub. You then simply run an RCA cable from the output on the first sub to the input on the second sub. You have two subs running in parallel from one subwoofer output on your theater. An example of a sub with input and output is the Sony WX700. I have three of them running parallel.

would if you your 1st sub doesnt have the pre out is there another way besides the Y-spliter (i heard with the y-spliter its less reliable in sound quality)

The Y adaptor is not less reliable in sound quality...IMO.

You can connect a second sub the way Robert Rambler suggests,
or you can use a Y adaptor at your first sub (one end going into
the left or right inputs) and run the second sub into the unused end of the Y adaptor from your first sub.....that's just another way, but
Robert's way will save you a few bucks...time, and extra part,
etc,, etc.......vardo (enjoy that second sub Pa Dave !!)
