Vandy 2ce signature

I am thinking of upgrading my Klipshe RF-7 to Vandersteens 2ce signatures I will be driving them with 130 w/channel Musical Fidelity, I listen to mostly rock, any input would be helpful

What don't you like about your Klipsch's?

The reason I'm asking is because you couldn't have picked a more different speaker in the Vandy if you tried. Whereas Klipsch is known for a vibrant, perhaps in-your-face presentation, Vandy's are the epitome of "laid back." I've found through the years that few brands foster as much dissention as Vandersteen. They are a true "love-it" or "hate-it" proposition. I fall into the latter, but Richard's fans are legion and swear by them so he must be doing something right. The bottom line is you're going to have to listen to them and decide for yourself. Personally, I would think the rolled off extremes of the 2ce would soften the impact of good rock music, but at least it won't be fatiguing.

you love them or you hate them...

but why do you want to upgrade? If you like their sound, the klipsches are impossible to beat in their priceclass...

I agree with the above posts. Vandersteens 2Ce (which I have owned)
do produce a very laid back sound with a large soundstage.

They are not a very good speaker for hard rock. Pop, Jazz, etc.,
they sound great to me. I was using my Vandy's for home theater,
and they just didn't have the slam I was looking for. I replaced them
with Atlantic Tech 350 THX speakers and it made a world of difference.

I used to have some Klipsch LaScalls in a stereo only setup and they
were great for rock...but over the years my musical tastes changed.
I found I enjoyed jazz, soft rock, pop more than hard rock.
So I sold the Klipsch spekers and bought a pair of Mirage M5si bipolar speakers. These are a love 'em or hate them speakers. I've had them
for 12 yrs and for music, they are great IMO.

Just take your favorite music and go ahead and listen to the Vandy's
at your local dealer. Let your ears deside what sounds best
to you..........vardo

I would suggest really shopping around a great deal before making the leap. If you know what type of music that you enjoy than I would take some samples around to some shops and listen to them until you find a perfect match.

Like they all said... Vandy's are outstanding speakers, but they are not for everyone. I think it all comes down to how different individuals perceive sound stage. To my ears, no other comparable speaker comes close in this category.

Take a good, long listen. You may find they are perfect for you. You may find otherwise.

Count me as another one who's not a huge fan of the Vandys, although in my listenings, the 2ce did too many things exceptionally well to just dismiss them outright. (Exceptional imaging, and probably the best center/main speaker timbre match that I've heard, which makes for great 360 degree envelopment with 5.1 sources) It's just that the Vandys also do a other things that just leave me puzzled. (Bizarre tonal characteristics, hollow sound with percussion, different points of emphasis than I'm used to hearing) The Vandersteen proponents will argue that the Vandys are the most phase and time correct speakers on the market, and what you hear is simply a more accurate representation of what the recording is supposed to sound like.

Either way though, going from Klipsch to Vandersteen is about as radical a change as you can make. Best to do what you're doing and take a careful listen before taking the plunge.

I am just now selling my Vandy 2CE Sigs, had them and loved them for 8 years and have nothing but good things to say except that they truly come to life at mid-higher volumes and I had to supplement them with a subwoofer which worked beautifully. Great speakers overall though - we just gave them to our local audio shop for consignment sale recently and they should turn up on Audiogon any minute. Can't beat them for the price, I gotta say, although I've not compared them to Klipsch. That said, I have a pair of outdoor Klipsch speakers that are fantastic, so can only imagine floor speakers!
