I'm a big fan of the Denon DVD-2930CI for DVD playback. The Silicon Optix Reon processor is phenominal. That being said, the new Toshiba HD-XA2 features the very same Silicon Optix video processor, plus has the added benefits of HD-DVD playback, HDMI 1.3, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, higher video DAC's, and can be found for roughly the same price.

But to answer your question, I would definately consider the Denon DVD-2930CI or DVD-3930CI over the NAD T585.

I would also favor the Denon in this case. The NAD is a good player as well, but I've had so much success with my Denon 2910 that it's hard to beat. In fact, I use mine for predominately CD/SACD playback since you can setup the player for isolated music playback and this machine is 'tweaker heaven' with loads of options to really improve the audio and also the video features.
