I've got parts for a new computer on the way, all I can say is I'm looking forward to putting it all together.

And also, this is our spring break. Yes, i know it's not spring.

So what OS will you run? Vista, Mac X, Linux?

Personally I'd love to go Apple but don't see it happening soon.

I have a Mac Mini, I'd never consider switching to their hardware full time. I like their OS pretty much the same as Windows, their hardware is just not compelling for me. I much prefer choosing my own. This will be my first (and for a while only) Vista machine. I've used Vista a bit and definitely like some of the improvements in it.

upcoming vista user,
hope you like it...
you'll need good (read fast) hardware for that,
so what will be in your pc?

Keep them spinning,
Bert.

actually you don't, that's been the hype but I've played with it on slower hardware and know people that have upgraded XP on older computers and it runs great. Vista (aside from the silly eye-candy) is quick and doesn't really demand any more hardware wise than XP does, although if you give it more it improves notably with things like RAM upgrades (particularly since Vista makes better use of RAM than XP or OSX in my experience).

Hardware wise:
Intel E6600 with Noctua U9F cooler
4gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 675 RAM (4x1gb)
Asus P5B-E
18X DVD drive
160GB system drive (single platter high MTBF drive) 400gb data drive
Corsair 520HX power supply
nVidia 7950GT
Lian Li PC-V1100BPlus II case (they sent me the wrong case, working on getting this sorted out now, I can always pick one up locally at FrozenCPU although it costs a bit more).

cool,
maybe I'll upgrade to vista too, when the time is right (when there are drivers for my wlan usb adapter) don't know when that happens though...

Rock on,
Bert.

Yeah. I'm really frustrated, tomorrow I should receive the CPU & hard drives and I was going to finish putting it together then. I'm not sure that'll happen now because I was shipped the wrong case and I don't know if I will wait for the right one or not. I can certainly pick the right one up locally, but I'll take a hit since it costs a bit more.

I still have to deal with getting return shipping from the company I bought the case from.
