After a year long search for ANY amp from this company, I finally found one for sale
at a price in my budget, $320. Last year as I was picking up my speaker crossovers
at the shop I use, a pair of JBL 4345's were being bench tested with a SAE A501,
and, I can't get the image/sound out of my head. It was total sensor overload. I made it
a mission to get that combo, problem is, turns out no one sells there SAE stuff. I
heard why that day. The Amp I bought is slightly lower powered, 200 vs 250wpc, but
it should sound good with the HPM100's I use. Anyone familar with SAE gear. Not
alot of info on them. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your purchase. SAE amps are highly sought after. I acquired a 2400 (same as yours but with the analog meters) in mint condition last year. I refurbished mine including, check and zeroing of DC offset, replacement of all electrolytic caps and, all transistors and diodes on the output protection board. Upgraded the input RCA sockets and output binding posts. It is amazing how good the amp sounds, especially for a 30-year old design. Check out AudioKarma and SAE Talk if you want to shoot the breeze about SAE amps, and the collector links below.

Very nice job! I'm guessing the 2400L is the same, but with LED's, is that correct? How
does that amp sound, and who did the upgrades. Were the transformers replaced also.
Lots of questions I know.

The 2400L is the same as the MARK XXIV/2400 performance-wise. Both share the same power supply, pre-driver, driver and output stages. Differences between the two models are a different output protection circuit in the 2400L and the LEDs versus analog meters. The transformer did not need to be replaced. Did you really mean transistors ? I did the refurb job myself. I have 40 years of DIY under the belt so it was not a big deal. The amp sounds great, especially for a 30-year old design and does not give up too much to my Classé amp. I am currently using the 2400 to drive the main channels of my HT system and for secondary 2-channel.

Whatever happened to the notion of combining the SAE with a pair of 4345s?
