I have a sanyo PLV Z5 projector and a 100" DaLite screen to be set up in a 16" long room. ANy thoughts on how many feet out from the screen should the projector be mounted on the ceiling?

It looks like you can throw a 100" picture from anywhere between 10.1 and 20 feet away. Anywhere in that range will work. So pick a spot in your room that is 10+ feet away that is convenient for you.

actually for your projector to be at its' best with a 100" screen you need at least 18' . under the circumstances, you should place it as close to the far wall/ceiling as possible and adjust your PJ accordingly; there will be some rez loss but not enough to be a major concern

To get maximum performance, you should place it at 18 feet and at the height of the top of your screen. This will produce a narrower cone of light hitting the screen so more of the projector light bounces back towards the viewer and not on the walls if placed closer. Placing close to the top of the screen height bounces the light down toward the viewer for a brighter picture, as well. The only real exception to this is if you have a projector that is really dim, but that is rarely the case now a days.
