As threatened I am going to kick out my belated 2006 year end comp. I found some really great stuff to listen to and am sorry to learn that it wasn't as good a year for others. Of course there's always the matter of my taste to take into consideration. If you're really big into some power rock thing or think there's no good music out there save yourself the time of the download as it will probably just confirm your suspicions. The comp is filled with some of my favorite tracks released in 2006. Mainly indie type stuff with several different styles mixed in. Several have been culled from albums that will make my top 10, others just had a couple of tracks that really worked for me and have been added here for my sake.

I had some issues with mediafire so I broke down and split it into two parts and then made some changes to the order. I'd suggest following the order listing here to burn but whatever, it's the same songs and I'm not going to try to upload it again. It will burn onto one disc. If you can't deal with flac but still want to hear it you can just PM me and I'll mail out a copy on disc. *this disc is rated M for occasional language issues* Also the opinions expressed in some of the songs, especially the Sparks track are not necessarily those of the comper.***

Yeah, that Rodrigo Y Gabriela album is pretty awesome, innit? Did you get the version with the DVD? I think Gabriela is drunk for like the entire interview. Gotta love a woman who drops the F bomb as much as she does.

And then, to get a swift kick in the ... reality, watch the tutorial.

yep. As great as the album is the DVD is mesmerizing. It's freaking unreal watching.

you'd be surprised!

Actually there's some things there that you should enjoy. Not everything of course but I really fought the urge to sneak in my synthpop stuff.

Can't get part 2 right now. Part 1 downloaded immediately. How many downloads has it had so far? I never had problems with mediafire before. Maybe too many people know about it now!

Oh well, gives me time to snag all of the album art.

zero downloads of part 2
4 downloads for part 1

As I PM'd you I had all kinds of trouble uploading this whole thing. Reset connections, invalid keys and some other odd error messages. With my upload speeds being capped it wasn't much fun. Thought I finally had it, guess not. Sorry, I have no idea what could be wrong.

Can't get part 2 either. Message says servers can't be found with requested data, try again later. Part 1 in progress. Looking forward to the great unknown!

Thanks

well, I tried to upload part 2 again and was hopefull it would be on a different server. I just about had it up when I got the following error message "ERROR: Invalid key state, no status" After waiting more than 2 hours for the upload I'm pretty pissed off. I don't know what's up. I've got a dinner at Church soon so I'll try it again while I'm gone. If anyone knows what's up I'd love to hear it.

I'd wait until Monday and see if they get their act together. If it still won't d/l by then I'd put Part 2 up on sendspace. They're almost painfully slow but do allow 300MB per clip.

I was gonna ask you if you are a closet Pumpkins fan with regard to SSPUs but you already explained it in your top 10 thread (I have the debut EP, Pikul, and that's enough for me. Not that it's bad or anything, it's just that I've had enough of that sound after 16 years).

Plenty on Part 1 to keep me occupied but that'll hafta wait until tomorrow. Hopefully when I wake up I won't need recovery time.

Okay, well at track at a time works as well. PITA but whacha gonna do? Hey, it's still faster than the USPS as if that makes you feel any better.

Well not exactly the way I wanted it to go but all the tracks are up. Hope there's something in there to like since I'm making everyone jump through hoops. Still, the price is right.

Thanks Jim. Got 'em all now. Didn't have much time to listen yet but can already tell there's some really good stuff there to get to know. I'll have to make a CD-R of this to spin on my work commute (or convert the songs to WMA Lossless to put on my ,eh hem, 'mp3' player).

EDIT: Just one complete spin so far and I liked everything except the last three tracks. Definitely some bands there I'll need to further investigate. Nice work!

BTW, the link for Part 2 is now working.

Good deal JC. I joined the AR party a bit late last night so I haven't checked out everything yet. I did jump on that Woven Hand cuz of all the good press it gets around these parts. Niiicccee. So on that piece alone, thanks for the effort.

Right now I'm still working on the new Shins album which I picked up on Friday. Someone made a comment to or about Dusty the other day regarding his musical fickelness. I'm finding I'm the same way with this indie stuff. I like what I like and take an apathetetic pass on the rest.

If you haven't checked out the Andrew Bird that Sloshy's flogging do so. It's top notch...or at least right up my alley.

Cheers
