Basically -- for our dialup friends -- it appears that a song that Timbaland claims he wrote for Nelly Furtado ("Do It") was stolen from the .MOD community.

Oh yeah, Bruce Sprringsteen's Radio Nowhere having ripped off Tommy Tutone's 867-5309.

I think this is something that goes on a lot and you'd think artists would be more careful, what with the eyes and the ears of the world scrutinizing.

It pretty obvious that Timbaland lifted that melody, but will his fans care?

Holy thread revival, Batman.

My personal fav was the Rolling Stones lifting the tune for "Anybody Seen My Baby" off KD Lang's "Constant Craving".

To be fair, a lot of basic chord progressions and simple melodies are used throughout pop/rock and accidental duplication isn't all that uncommon. It's a fine line between coincidence and theft I think. The more successful an artist is, the more we assume they're jacking tunes from someone else.

And yet, Led Zeppelin is the evil band that so many hate for doing the same thing?

...songs, or parts of songs, without giving credit, that you can't help but hate them for it. :yesnod:

All that statement will ever get you is a "but that's different".
