Hi, i've just registered myself here, hoping to find an answer to the following problem:

I've always used a Yamaha AX-396 amp, with 2 JAMO BX-150 speakers connected to it.
For Home theater i used a small all-in-one philips system.

Now i bought myself a Yamaha RX-V1600, which sounds really good just with the 2 JAMO speakers connected (FRONT L+R).
But off course i would like to upgrade to a surround sound speaker set.

The question is, what should i do?
I think i've already decided to keep my Jamo speakers, because besides the clear high tones, they produce a powerful bass, which eliminates the need for a seperate sub.
Is that a good idea or not?(the alternative would be to buy a complete 5.1 set)

Then if i do so, i must choose a center speaker and a set of rear speakers...
I've been recommended the B&W 601 S3 speakers for the rears, and an LR60 S3 for center.

I've read some pretty good reviews about the 600 speakers series, but i don't know what they will do when hooked to my RX-V1600...
Also i'd like to know what the alternatives are (KEF Q1?), or if i should just go with these ones (i've read that there aren't any better alternatives in this price class)..

I didn't went to my dealer to test-hear them yet, but i'm planning to do so this weekend.

thanks for any help

the first thing to decide is: How much do i want to spend???
# 2 i highly recommend considering a subwoofer (unless you have a pair of ar 9's handy), and the only sub i would consider is a sunfire.......you can save some $'s on ebay. the reason for this recommendation is: the most impressive/noticeable improvement you can make to your sound system is adding some powerful, clean bass response. The other speakers (rear and center channels should be your second priority. reply here or email for further assisstance. HAPPY LISTENING!!!

Well, not a lot more then the B&W 600 series (about 800$ for center and rear speaker)

I don't know much about Jamo speakers, but here's what I'd do:
get a Jamo E6CEN.5 center channel speaker ($150 Ebay),
(2 4"woofers, 1" tweeter)...QS4-V2 surrounds from Axiom
Audio ($420 pair), these are the best surrounds I've heard
and I heard alot of them (and owned them) and a HSU VTF-1
10" Sub ($379 plus shipping). Of course this is $150
over what you wanna spend...but that's what "I" would do.

An alternate to the surrounds and sub would be Jamo E600
surrounds ($349 pair, darkapple finnish), and a Dayton 10"
Titanic MKIII sub kit from Parts Express ($288 delivered).
Very easy to put together if you can turn a screwdriver and
a hex hed wrench (takes about a hour to assemble). Of
course I own this sub and that's why I am recommending it..
It sounds great. All in all that would be in the $800 range.
Good luck and hope you get some gear that you'll be happy
with.....vardo
