Speaker Recommendations

Greetings all,

I'm a newbie to audio in comparison to many here, so I'd like your opinion on getting some new speakers to add to my current setup. I've allocated approximately USD500 for new speakers, preferably floorstanding. Assuming the speakers I eventually get are less than that, the remaining cash will be used to get myself some good cabling/interconnects (I'm currently using some monster cable I bought for like USD1/meter).

My current setup is: Onkyo DX2700 CD player, Marantz PM-7000, Allison Acoustics AL-100 speakers. A friend of mine working in an audio shop recommended the AudioPro Evidence E6 (http://www.audiopro.com/products/evidence_e6.asp) to me based on my budget. I haven't actually had the chance to test out the speakers, but I'm not looking for much; more of something to supplement my AL-100's.

I know my current setup is nothing to be proud of, but I spend most of my $$$ on my PC, so I rarely get the chance to get anything for my sound system (the CD player/speakers were actually passed on to me by my uncle who has since moved on to Lynn or something to that effect).

What is an Allison AL-100 speaker? It doesn't seem to be a current model.

As I recall, the Allison speakers were quite good.

Anyway, there's nothing the matter with your electronics and I seriously doubt there is anything the matter with your interconnects and cables unless they are defective..
