Extend my HDMI.

Hi all,
I just purchased a 4m Monster hdmi cable from ebay for $43 but I just realized that it's not long enough. I plan to buy an hdmi female to female extender from PartExpress ($9). I know it's not a good idea but it left me no choice.
Q: Will this idea degrade my audio/video quality noticable?

HDMI cables are known for having a length limitation of about 5 meters. Copper cables longer than 5 meters in length often just don’t work. The cable’s impedance (resistance to sending the signal) increases as the cable length increases. At about 5 meters, the resistance is too high to pass the signal.

A typical HDMI cable is constructed using 28AWG copper conductors. In order to run a longer cable length I would recommend purchasing heavy gauge cables using thick 24AWG copper conductors. This construction allows for a cable length of up to 15 meters.

Monoprice sells very reasonably priced 24AWG HDMI cables for $15-$50, depending on the length you need.

Oh no, my BIG mistake. I thought I ordered a MONSTER brand hdmi from ebay, now I rereade the ad, it's said Monster cable STYLE. darn it. I'm stuck with a fake one now,

According to this website below, a repeater device ($44) will be recomanded to maintain best performance if hdmi line is 64 ft or 20m long. As posted above, I already purchased a 13ft hdmi cable but because of the last minute changing and relocating my audio rack. I now have to buy a new and longer 25' hdmi and will be stuck with the 13ft. That's my update.

At 25 feet I would not recommend purchasing a 28AWG cable as you will likely have signal problems. Avoid the cable you linked to if possible.

Thanks for the link to MonoPrice but I didn't like the designed of the hub. Mine is a bit more contemporary look yet, a more "high end" look. If their is a lost because of the 25ft lenght then why not UniqueProducOnline.com did not increase its size from 28 to 22 awg like MonoPrice.com did?

Do a Google for "HDMI Cable Length Limitations" and let me know what you find.

You certainly don't have to purchase from Monoprice, but I still strongly advise against purchasing 28AWG cabling for that cable length. 24AWG is the most suitable cable. Blue Jeans Cable is another excellent manufacturer.

In any case, it's your money, spend it how you wish.

Agree with elapsed.They make the heavier gauge cable specifically for the longer run and buying anything less is a mistake.The better cable should avoid the need for that signal repeater you mentioned.
