I need to buy another DVD player which has to double as a CD player. I'm more concerned about 2ch music than video. I'm considering the following units:

Denon 2910

Yamaha S2500

NAD T534

I'm currently using a Denon 1910 which has fairly good sound and picture. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Check out the Oppo 970. It's $149 and was just chosen as The Absolute Sound's Budget Component of the Year.

The Oppo 970 is nice but for $229 I would go with the Oppo DV-981with the 1080P upconverting. It has better video processing. I would like to see a comparison of the audio quality of the yamaha and denon since I'm only really interested in redbook CD listening.
Multichannel audio is not my thing. I really should get a high end dedicated CD player but I need a new DVD player to go with a new 50" panasonic plasma TV and new 37" LCD TV.
I will use my current denon 1910 with my MMG's and LCD while the new DVD player will go with my Adcom system and Q1.6 Maggies.

Anyone here has experience with DVD players modified by the Reference Audio? Toshiba or Opps looks very interesting.

Hmm, don't a few more people have any recommendations for a good sounding DVD/CD player in the $400-700 range?

I have a marantz SACD/DVD player... it sounds pretty good... (much better than any normal dvd player I have tried...)

I forget the model, but it was ~$450 2 years ago...

Thanks, I'll check it out. I was thinking about buying a mid price player and possibly modding it. Any one have any experience with resource audio mods?

Check out the Cambridge Audio 540d.It has as good a cd playback as you will find in a player at that price level, very good picture as well.I have had one for about 2 years and never had an issue.

Sorry, in my previous post I meant to ask if any one knows about reference audio mods not research audio.

DV6500 (http://www.audioreview.com/mfr/dvd-players/PRD_331072_1587crx.aspx)

sounds great, but SACD bass isn't that good... maybe I don't have it set up properly?
also, I think I only paid $450 for this at a store in Akron, OH 2 years ago

sounds great, but SACD bass isn't that good... Something's wrong -- bass is one of the best things about SACD.

this is what I thought...
do you know how to set up the DV6500?
not sure what I am doing incorrectly?

Yeah, since it says it has bass management, I would go into the audio setup menu and check your speaker sizes and subwoofer, and make sure it matches the connections to the rest of your system. What is it connected to and how?
