Description makes it sound like the audio would be a bit artificial.

seeing the word 'cheap' and 'digital' can't be good,

thing is that they want to digitalize speakers, other thing is that sound itselves is something analog,

and, they want to modify the sound so 'cheaper speakers' can sound good too, this would most likely be done by something digital, which would most likely affect the crossover too, making it more complicated, and this is where it becomes bad, because, the less complicated, the better,
IMO, the only way to make things sound good, is to use good equipment, and good materials, which is also making it more expensive....

Here we go with another gadget designed to compensate for the awful job of mixing/mastering done in most studios. Instead of compensating for over processed over compressed music they should do it right in the first place.:ciappa:

I'm not fundamentally anti-digital like a folks around here. In fact I'm inclided to believe that analog => PCM 24/96 => analog is inherently transparent to human hearing if properly done.

What this "chip" or device is doing is can done now in a home stereo using units from TACT or DEQX. For that matter, it can be done fairly well, given careful setup, by a Behringer DCX2496 and two or three Behringer DEQ2496's, for a cost of under a grand, (plus additional amplifiers for bi- or tri-amping).

I thought much of what the chip did was to also recreate spacial effect. The brain behind Dynavector has a system that sort of does that for home. It's a processor and recommended speakers. His speaker set up is four speakers but the larger are in the rear. It's been a while since I read about it, it was interesing.
