Dream,
I'm with you on this one. I purchased and sold used gear at a shop in downtown Torrance, CA and one in Newport Beach, CA. These used gear shops disappeared a long time ago and I have not been able to find any others. A few years back I wanted a mid-70's Marantz reciever-blue fm/am dial, gyro tuning wheel, signal meters-you know the one. I could not find any ventage dealers in SoCal (San Fernando Valley to Riverside to San Diego). The only place I find used gear is at places like Best Buy and Circuit City, but this is "new" gear that has been returned, which becomes open box/returned/used and marked down. Once in a while you'll find some odds and ends audio gear suitable for your office. The best place to shop for used is online. A few e-tailers actually operate bricks and morter stores. Good luck I know how you feel.

You'll find a far, far, better selection at audiogon.com than you'll ever find at a shop that has used gear (if you can find one in the first place).

There is a very good "used " audio shop " in Sherman Oaks. I dont recall the name but its location is,on the north side of ventura blvd, just west of fulton.Hes listed in the yellow pages under stereo repair.

I was there a couple of months ago and the selection the guy has is enormous. :)

Most "High End" shops have used or trade ins. They obviously will push the new stuff, but if asked will show you what they have. Usually a small and limited selection, sometimes coupled with an unsuported opinion of the high worth of the equipment.

A lot of leg work for little result. If you live in a big city it's often possible to find a listing for a specific used item on the internet within driving distance. Most sellers are happy to demonstrate their item, plus you get exposure to a lot of systems, some extraordinary and of course some less so.

that would be the audio specialist, actually a repair shop that has a fair number of pieces for sale at decent prices.

another option is brooks berdan in monrovia where the choices are more high end which is perfect if thats what you want.
