i have a soundesign 6863abc. my family wants to throw it away. but i first want to know if its worth anything. the record player doesnt work well. and the stereo itself isnt all that great. but it still works. if anybody has any information on this it will be appreciated.

your family has the right idea. Go with the flow.

Yip, not to sound like an elitest jerk but Soundesign is about the cheapest stuff around.

I've got a half eaten sandwich that has fallen on the ground. I've knocked off most of the sand and ants. Does anyone want a bite?

Actually, I have to admit, I have been trolling ebay for a particular Soundesign unit from my youth. I actually saw it once before, but did not bid on it.

Apparently, the rise of Ebay, Antiques Roadshow, and HGTV have confused people's ability to separate junk from "vintage."

I sold Soundesign crap when I worked for Lafayette Radio to people who were tone deaf, or just plain too cheap to buy something decent. Your folks are right, and you shouldn't waste any time either!

...is the ability to throw an [Un]Soundesign unit into a dumpster without hitting the sides. Let us know how well you do...

trollgirl what do u have for a system?????

Computer system:

MCS 3830 amp
Realistic CD player [don't know model # offhand]
Yamaha 3-ways [again, don't know model #]
Yamaha sound card
sound: not bad

Bedroom system:
Toshiba DVD player - only plays CD's
Toshiba tuner
Kenwood preamp [sounded better than my high-dollar Music Reference, now eBay'd]
Onkyo cassette deck [3 motor]
TDS unit
Proton 300 table radio, in powered speaker mode
Proton 301 powered speaker
various headphones, including Stax
sound: most satisfying

Living Room system:
JVC MX-1 [the original - shakes the floor during movies]
sound: great

I used to have a "main" system, and it was semi-exotic at one point, but one-by-one, the exotic components have fallen to cheaper units which sounded better. The preamp is an example, and I picked the Kenwood up at DAV for $13, and it's not even a "good" Kenwood. Before that my Anthem power amp was replaced by a Yamaha M-35 which I grabbed at an estate sale for $80.
