For $1000, you may want to check out Sony 34 inch HDTV (34XBR970) at Bestbuy or Sears. Although it does not have the infamous SFP (super Fine pitch) tube, it still might be the best TV out there.

One of my partners in crime has the Sony and it is a damn fine television. Nonetheless, you may want to consult some experts. Three hours a day (minimum) is a lot time for a static image on a screen. CRTs, while not as sensitive as plasmas, are still susceptible to burn in. An entry level LCD ( a technology which uses no heat producing phosphors) may be a better long term purchase. Hopefully more experienced characters will weigh in...

Good luck and have fun

For about $300 more you can get the 720p Mitsubishi H1000u front projector.
Mitsubishi is are also offering and free replacment bulb until the end of the year.
You will be able to play your games on a 100" plus screen, it's great. When I play halo multiplayer (4 players) everyone has at least a 25" screen.
