What are some of your DVDs that can be categorize as having a reference quality video with bright picture, deep colors, clarity, etc. I may want to add it to my collection :D

Here are few from my collection...........

Hey Smokey,

As you know there was a Sound & Vision top ten list and, as I recall, it was pretty decent. Frankly, there are a lot of films that provide a spectacular visual presentation. A few that I have recently revisited are:

2126
Tears of the Sun which looks good, and...

2127
American Psycho Uncut which looks and makes me laugh uncontrollably, and...

2128
Aeon Flux which looks good and makes me smile for a completely different reason (heard it had a plot, too)

Hey Bobsticks

Thanks for recommendation. Yes, I am aware of S&V top ten DVD in terms of video and sound. Just wanted to expand my horizon.

Getting DVD with good quality seem to be a hit and miss thing. Even newer releases don’t guaranty a good quality video. I guess it depend on how much care was taken during the transfer, and how much compression.

I am going to name a few of the better restored films for picture and sound....

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA Superbit Edition
SECONDS (1966) Awesome b&w
OKLAHOMA 2-Disc Sp. edition in both CinemaScope and Todd-AO transfers
YOUTH OF THE BEAST (Criterion Ed.)
THE SEARCHERS (HD-DVD)
EYES WITHOUT A FAC (Criterion Ed.)
SLEEPING BEAUTY (2-disc Sp. Ed.) Great example of color fidelity in a animated feature.

I know everyone has this by now, but:

The Matrix

The subtlety of the real world vs. the Matrix (slightly greener) is a brilliant use of DVD.

And I have to second Hero -- just a gorgeous use of colour.
