Just curious if anyone has any experience with the Toshiba SD 4990 DVD player.I'm just looking to get an inexpensive player until I eventually go HD with my home theatre.Right now I have a 36'' Sony Wega CRT Flat screen TV which isn't HD but I do have a complete home theatre set-up with Denon A/V reciever..I realize the progressive scan and other conversion features on the 4990 won't do anything for me with my existing TV but it has some other nice features and I like the fact that it has both Coaxial and Optical digital audio out which saves me the cost of a cable as I'm currently using the optical version and almost all the lesser units use Coaxial only which would add another $50 to the set-up.I'm not expecting miracles from this unit but right now it is on sale at Best Buy for $76 which is tempting.I was also looking at Sony,Samsung, and Panasonic which were all more expensive with almost identical features. At least with Best Buy returns are a breeze if this thing is a flop.

Never mind on the Toshiba SD4990.After doing an extensive google search It became clear this unit has issues with locking up or not playing certain discs which is the very reason I'm replacing my existing unit.I bought the Sony DVP-NS75H for $100 after rebate at circuit city after hearing almost exclusively good things about it.It's certainly has many more features than I need as I don't have an HD TV yet but I just can't bring myself to buy a $50 player as I'd rather spend the extra $50 on something I will hopefully use for a while and the Sony has an optical audio out which is what I'm using now so that saves me the cost of a coaxial audio cable so it's basically a wash on the cheaper machines that didn't have the optical connection.
