Hello:
As a point of introduction, I am one of the top three or four audiophiles in the US.

Hi Mr. Briggs. Welcome to AR.com.
I'm kexodusc.
I'm one of the top 17,947 audiophiles in North America, formerly of Bangor, currently of N.B. Canada.

Thanks. I've been on here before but business concerns w/Jadis et al. kept me busy. Originally from Newport Rhode Island.
A superlative lifestyle can be had outside of Bangor.

How do you rank audiophiles? Is there a Register? I'd think with such a small group one would know for sure whether there were three or four.
Ah well, welcome!

Jameson Davenport Briggs is one of the foremost audiophiles in the world. He is retained, on the buy side, by UHE (Ultra High End) usually IO (Invitation Only) resellers and private audio boutiques. His recommendation, or lack thereof, can make or break an audio manufacturer. He has been featured on numerous audio bulletin boards and has lectured on audio topics at several prestigious Ivy League Universities. At the request of thousands of audiophiles, Davenport is initiating a program whereby he will advise high net worth individuals on component selection, aging and burning in of cables, and other relevant topics. More details on this will be made available in the near future.
Born to a “double Mayflower” family in Newport Rhode Island, Davenport’s family had been very prominent in manufacturing for over 150 years. The captain of his lacrosse team at Choate-Rosemary Hall, Davenport Entered Yale, Yale Law, and finally Yale’s Graduate School of Management and then proceeded to go to Wall Street to work as a top-tier investment banker to some of America’s most prominent corporations.
In 1989 he “retired” and built a giant testing laboratory and living compound, The Briggs Compound, outside Caribou Maine. The compound contains three guest houses, a main chateau of some 22,000 square feet, an on site audio testing laboratory and a helopad. At any given time high end manufacturers are on site to have their products reviewed, tested and to get comments from Davenport Briggs. Davenport only believes in rigorous testing of all aspects of a product prior to rendering a comment or decision.

Which generation is this one the first, Vl, Vll...can't even get his Roman numerals straight...there are at least three other variants of the moniker on file...pity his posts were purged as a result of the site's format changes...used to be simply the compound in Northern Maine...He liked my use of the word Caribou so much, he decided to take up residence...#1 audiophool is about right...

I'm an Apogee fan myself! I started with the Grand Vitara's, later upgraded to the Gold Accords and now found a nice pair of Platinum Coupe de Villes that get reasonable current to the gallon. I power them with a nice vintage John Deere PowerTrack mk IV and I've received lots of nice comments from people such as yourself.

You're just not quite up to the UHE (Ultra High End) yet. But don't despair! I'm sure you upgraded from the Grand Marquis and you're only a half step away from the Grand Cherokees. From there it's UHE all the way, baby!
I'm always told that audio and car analogies don't hold, but the Grand Integra was tooooo much to resist! :)

Have you guys heard the Crown Victorias, or as they say in the bizz...the Crown Vic?
I haven't moved up the Grand ladder. I did own the Grand Ams once, but they gave me that "left on the side of the road" feeling.

That's a bad feeling. The top of the line Grand Poobah comes with a free (s******...yeah, right - NOT built into the price...right!) membership to AAA (Automobile Audiophiles Asylum) so you'd never be left on the side of the sonic blacktop.
There's always the mid-fi Grand Wazoo also. Not much at soundstaging but a HUGE back end, hence the name. I think Frank Zappa owned those speakers....

C'mon guys this is all in good fun - RGA actually is quite amused by his posts. He gives the whole stupid hobby (and it really is if you think about it) a good kick in the arse. Are Audio Note UK and Audio Note Japan (now marketed as Kondo) the same company? Were they at one time?

Well Mr. Davenport has done his homework at least mostly which makes his posts more amusing. If you are going to lampoon audiophilia then it helps if you're on track.
For info on Audio Note it is available on Audio Asylum. Kondo-San started Audio Note in Japan in the 1970's after leaving Sony. He was a metalurgical engineer and developed microphones for recording studios. Peter Qvortrup of Audio Note is not an engineer but Marine Broker who became an Audio Dealer and distributor and formed a company called Audio Innovations. Peter is the owner/marketer musicphile. He has the largest "personal" collection of music in the world. He hires designers from other companies who can get the results that he is after.
He takes a lot f flack for not being a designer but that is merely a piece of paper. Here is his background http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/set/messages/46764.html
For Kondo (Audio Note Japan) and AN UK Peter and Kondo-San had a falling out. http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=general&n=36887&highlight=kondo+peter+qvortrup&r=&session=
For John Davenport the Gaku-On surely would make the grade as a nice "Entry Level" amplifier in the spare room. :cornut:

It was chosen...just for dimwits such as yourself...I know I'm a loser cuz I'm talkin' to the likes of you!
Funny again...AN UK has the IO LTD. and Kondo (formerly AN Japan) has it's IO-j...as their respective TOL carts...You would think the pre-eminent audiophool would own and/or know about their current offerings...unless of course the Kondo is a vintage (and not a SOTA) piece...
And is it the Gaku-on or the Ongaku? Or the Gakuoh...?
