They are soon to launch new products, which I found out about because of this one store already adding it to their website. No pics yet, but so far it seems like they will be selling new upgrades for their entry to medium level AV Receivers.

SR3001, SR4001, SR5001, SR6001 all in black and silver. So far it seems to me that they are the same as the SR-X600 counterparts, but with added HDMI support. I'm glad I got me my SR-4600, because I won't be needing HDMI any time soon and with HDMI 1.3 in development it looks like this thing will be kinda outdated already.

Matching dvd players as well!

They are also upgrading their CC4300 cd changer to the CC4001, which I guess is a 5 disc version of the CD5001 with added mp3 playback.

Prices mentioned are in euros, first after, 2nd before sales tax.

For those that remember, it would be cool if Marantz launched new "retro" receivers that looked like the beautiful ones of the mid-70's. Smooth flywheel tuner, silver face plate, black dial with blue FM/AM numbers, pointer that lit-up at each station, meters showing signal strength, stereo indicator light, clean looking well layed-out controls.

Marantz' 30 something year old recievers are still popular, just have a look at the vintage sector of this forum, and sell for about their original cost ($200 +/-) on ebay when in "mint" condition.

My guess is the manufacturing cost for 1970's controls, exteriors and visuals combined with todays technology inside the box would put them out of reach for the mass market.

My brother owns a Marantz from the early '70's (1971 I think) back when Saul Marantz still ran the company. Blued out tuner with gyrascope, 70 watts per channnel that delivers punch like a 200 watt amp from the last few years. Mint condition (and I mean MINT!). The owner of the high end store I recently visited started salivating when I told him of my brother's system, offered me his house, car, and wife in trade.

Need I say more?

Yeah, I love the "silver" look of the '70s equipment, especially Marantz. Recently I bought 2252B receiver, circa '77 or '78, on Audiogon: see stock photo, below.

They are pretty common on eBay. Some guy in the Toronto area seems to have a steady supply of them.

I sold a 70's Panasonic receiver on Audiogon for $120 not too long ago. I think I paid just $10 for it at a garage sale (it had blown fuses - easy to replace). This stuff is definitely selling well. One niche is the FM tuners. Since HD radio is going nowhere, these are still fetching quite a premium (see fmtunerinfo.com).

I wonder if in another decade people will be salivating over the "cool" 1980's gear with the red digital read-outs. I have an old 1986 Philips component set with green LED's all over the place, silver faces, and no dials - just buttons. If it is still working as well in ten years, I could make bank....
