It's been 7 years since I use to hang out around here, so take it easy on me.
Have there been any verifiable news about a DVD player with 1080p, SACD,DVD-A and all the bells and whistles that are now standard issue?
I can't go for Blu or HD until someone put the decoders in place.
Would it be too much to ask for SDDS decoding as well? I have my hope in Onkyo, since they have leaded the way before.

Hi misterq - here you can find the new line-up of Denon DVD players. The DVD-1930CI, DVD-2930CI, and DVD-3930CI all upconvert to 1080p and can play DVD-Audio and SACD.

Cool player. I meant HD-DVD or Blu Ray, would it play one of those as well?

There are no Universal HD players on the market yet... But I see that D&M Holdings has just joined the HD DVD consortium. D&M own Denon and Marantz, so I would imagine that Denon intends on releasing a Universal HD DVD Player in 2007. :)

As I understand it SACD is a delta modulation scheme, without argueing for or against, it is not possible to map this to 24/96 or even 24/192 with no errors. Only approximations can be made. Perhaps the approximations are very good or perhaps not.

Before the effective colapse of hi definition audio (due largely to basic industry greed) strong feeling were uttered about which scheme DVD-A or SACD was superior. They are intrinsically different.

All the combo players I've seen use mapping instead of the two different decoders that would be needed to be truly a combo DVD-A and SACD player.

Is that the case with the Denon DVD-5910CI too?
I could not find more detail on their spec sheet.

It's curious that Philips is one of the main shareholders of D&M Holdings, Inc. Of course, D&M, like many other members of HD DVD Promotion Group, is member of Blu-ray Disc Association.
