the cm7's are made with the tweeter, mid and woofer from their 800 series, but put in another cabinet. only thing is that they aren't on b&w's site yet.

gotta find room quick, need room for speakers

That is a CM7 Flo. Check the site below. That phase plug on the woofer is a givaway.

Those are really B&W's?!?! I seriously thought they were white van speakers when I first saw them! What happened to the cool tweeters that B&W used to use?

Oh man, B&W has sunk to a new low. And thats hard to do in my book, but man those are ugly and cheap as **** looking. Makes a Paradigm Monitor look like a million bucks in comparison. Ouch!

You guys are crazy, I think the new CM series look a whole lot better than those! Those are expensive but in the end they're just loudspeakers with a pimple. I just got rid of my acne so I wont be getting any more pimples into my house. :ciappa:

That 'pimple' is a very functional one though. The pimple design far exceeds that of the 'chromed out' CM's because of the way the tweeters are mounted, and the way the enclosures are built.

personally i think they look good, not b&w-ish, but they look good, btw,

the ones you are showing in the picture are b&w's indeed, but they aren't new, i don't think they are still being produced, these http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.models/Label/Model%20800D, on the other hand, are still in production, and they are beauties.

looks likey they are genuine B&W's same tweeter and if you look close at the gallery on B&W's site they have the same narrow wide logo (it says Bowers & Wilkins I believe) below the woofer...they only have the CM1 on the site tho...link above.

They kinda look like a lot of other speakers that kinda look like that. There's a lot of sameness out there.

Still, if you like the way they sound, if you don't get too bored over a very basic speaker box, and if you want the B&W cachet, then they're a great place to start. :)

I'm still undecided on whether I love or hate the look of the new CM series.... they are totally different from the more adventurous styling of the 6, 7 and 800 Series....

I am however, really anxious to hear the CM7s since I have a strong suspicion that they will be the best value in the B&W line... based on my impressions of the CM1s which are very close in sound to the new 805s but for a fraction of the cost (obviously with less bass response due to a smaller driver and unfortunately lower sensitivity)....

I am OK with the look of the new CM series but having compared the CM1 against some other speakers, while they sound decent and perform better for the dollar than the 600 and 700 series, I don't think they're the best in their class.

I like the high tech look but this is definitely a speaker look you're going to love or hate as based on the posts so far.More importantly how will they sound.I had the 703's and they were extremely bright and thankfully they are now gone. The 703 uses the nautilus tube loaded tweeter mounted on top of the cabinet(as does the 800 series) and this speaker obviously has a traditionally mounted dome tweeter. If that's not a B&W FST yellow kevlar midrange then I've never seen one(or one amazing copy job by someone).Unless someone has actually heard them these speakers certainly shouldn't be judged yet as they may be very good for all we know and you're hearing this from someone who had a bad experience with a B&W product.

This model is on the B&W's website now here. (http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.models/Label/Model%20CM7) This tweeter is not the one used in the lower Nautilus models though, as they have a much longer taper tube for rear loading. Cosmetics are a very personal thing though. A review from H-Fi Choice is available for download here. (http://www.bwspeakers.com/bwhifi/reviews2006/CM7_HFC_Nov_06.pdf)

Here is another review: http://www.theflicks.co.ku/enlargement.asp?ArtID=926&Cat=102&Offset=3. A short but complimentary review.
Just recently I listened to the CM7 along with the 703 and 704 (all 3 driven by the same electronics). The 703 was the better of the three. The 704 had the same high end as the 703, but being a 2.5 way the midrange was not as present and the bass was not as dynamic.
The CM7 fell between the 703 and 704. It does have a Nautlus tweeter which gives it plenty of high end. Being a 3-way the mid-range had a presence that sounded full and didn't get lost. The bass was clear and full and, although, not quite as strong as the 703 it was definitely adequate.
The SRP is $1,600. A lot lower than the 704 and it sounds better...for the music I listen to. Yes, the 703 sounded better but not $1,000 worth.

Peter,

Thanks for the correction on my typo. My keyboard skills are lacking but at least my hearing is still, reasonably, good.

FWIW: In a earlier post you said that the tweeter is not the one used in the Nautilus. It is my understanding that all three speaker components (tweeter, midrange & bass) in the CM7 are the same as those in the 704 - it's the crossover network that is different)

Peter Duminy

The new CM series use what B&W calls this: "... from the 800 Series and shares that model’s driver and crossover technology". The tweeter dome is from the 805S, but the housing is from the 600 series. The first dome breakup occurs at just past 50kHz instead of 28kHz in the 600 series models. The 700 tweeter housing is totally different, and uses a different magnet structure, voicecoil, and a longer taper tube, and thus a lower Fs. The CM7 FST midrange drivers are different in size, the 703 uses a 160mm unit, and the CM7 a new 130mm unit. The woofers are also different, with the CM7 utilizing a 165mm cone unit with a phase plug. The woofer in the 703 and 704 use a 165mm cone unit and the oversized "mushroom" dustcap.

Crossovers are different, and the CM1 uses a 1st order minimalist design. The CM7 uses 3rd order from the woofer to the FST midrange, which uses 2nd order high pass and 1st order low pass, and then a 1st order high pass filter for the tweeter.

Peter,

Thanks for the clarification. I should have scrutinized my source material more closely..."technology" doesn't mean the same exact parts. As for the housing, yes it is from the 600 series but I believe it is modified, somewhat, internally. Basically, the CM7 is the result of trickle-down technology form the 800 series...as is the 700 and 600. Actually, the CM7 seems to be a hybrid of the 600, 700 & 800.

Mike
