I have an Alaska! album, but not that one. It's a nice album.

I've also heard a lot of good things about the Silverspun Pickups. Is that a garage rock type of thing?

Listening to one of my favorites from the last few years, in the computer drive for a morning coffee spin right now ... the song "Forgiveness" ... with the most amazing and magnifico (and possibly even career defining) "Edith's Dream" soon to follow ...

The debut from Wayne Robbins and the Hellsayers. Sad that it has almost no distribution or press because it's really a nice album, but I've done all I can, short of handing out copies in front of the grocery. Probably comes closer to that magic jangly sound of After the Gold Rush than Neil could conjur back up today, but still never sounds dated. A little of that "Helpless" flavor in the chorus of the second song. Guess they did some shows opening for My Morning Jacket so that's a good comparison too. But closer to the Songs: Ohia take on Neil Young, maybe. Not always the totally melancholy Molina as on Didn't It Rain that I love the most, but often the more twangy and hopeful one that made Magnolia Electric Co so good. Kind of like Doug Martsch and his Built To Spill take on Neil Young, but more lap steel. And Doug's quirky and mystical, but loveable take on the world around him. And they do let loose on occasion with the full arsenal of noisy guitars, which always makes me smile, sometimes even riding off into Spiritualized meets Crazy Horse territory. Good lyrics too, even if I don't always know quite what the songs are about. Only 10 songs and a couple do go on a little longer than they should, but the rest is golden, especially for a debut. Kind of self-released so only available at a couple places. Do a search around the net and buy it from Wayne...it'll make you happy. Or do a search around here, the guitar guy Jonas Cole stopped by a few times to chat. Pretty nice and uncompressed sound along with HDCD encoding (as you can see in the WMP capture above) for those that care about these things.

I've also heard a lot of good things about the Silversun Pickups. Is that a garage rock type of thing?Nah, it's very polished. Kinda like Siamese Dream but with femal vox. I snagged the Pikul ep from an obner ysi as well as one song from the new one. Want me to upload it?
