Has anyone purchased Wharfedales through Ebay retailers, some oversees. Over the past months a few retailers have been selling sets. They generally have about 10 sets in the auction. The prices seem too good to be true.

The speakers are new, with 5 year manufaturer warranty. One retailer said there are no scratches or dents. What do you think, could these be factory seconds with subpar sound quality? Do distributors get Diamond 9.1 speakers from Wharfedale for less then $200?

How can this be explained?

Something fishy about Wharfedales. Used to be a great speaker company. My father still has a functioning pair of sand filled Wharfedale floor standers made in the late 1950's. Last year I attempted to buy a Wharfedale Diamond center channel speaker on line. Got 2 "out of stock" responses and one that said "distributor lost lease and must relocate. These units will not be available for the forseeable future".

Also read from a seemingly knowledgeable English guy that Wharfedale really declined when they closed down their original factory and moved to a new place. This is all hearsay info and probably won't help you with your question. But if true, then it's kinda sad 'cause Wharfedale used to make some first rate stuff.
