I have read that some sony's cannot do this. I am looking in the 250-400$ ranf and 110wattsx7 or what ever sounds great. I have a sony tv and 6.1 JBL surround speakers. I need to run F/O from the cable box to receiver and from a game system and the dvd player to get the best sound possible. Any recommendations? Thanks

The Yamaha RX-V659 is a 7.1 receiver, with 100 watts per channel, rated at 0.06% THD. This model has 3 optical audio inputs, and can be found for $350.

I would also audition the Denon AVR-1906 at your price range.

I am thinking of the Onkyo TX-SR803. Any bad reviews. I am thinking this will work for a long time so when I get an HDTV I am set for a long time. What do you think?

Well that model is a lot more than your original budget :) You're now looking at about $700. If that's your price range then I highly recommend the Denon AVR-2807, which is a brilliant receiver and rated higher than the Onkyo TX-SR803.

The Sony STR-DE945 5.1 receiver was around $300-$400 new. You may be able to get $150 for her by selling on this forum or eBay.. good luck!
