I know there are several models of dual-mono preamps out there, and of course plenty of mono-amps. However, given the popularity of mono amps, I am surprised there are no mono preamps available (or are there?).

Anyhow, are there any advantages in mono or dual-mono preamps if there really is no pracatical dual-mono source out there?

i don't think there are any advantages in mono preamps cus then you need another preamp to connect those preamps to if you want stereo or surround. mono amps are made for people who have very powerfull speakers and then you take a mono or a stereo amp to 'satisfy' your speaker's hunger. i don't think there's any use in building mono preamps

Dual mono could mean nothing more than separate signal paths on separate PCB's with separate volume controls and separate power supplies in one case. Of course it can also mean separate mono preamps in separate chassis. Stereo is a dual mono source of sorts ie:you can amplify only one channel, not that you would want to.

Here's one company that seems to think dual-mono is a virtue:

Does anyone out there have experience comparing dual mono preamps with regular preamps? Are there audible differences, considering that the source is almost never dual-mono?

A while back I built one of "Aunt Corey's" preamps from a Stereophile article. When I switched to dual power supplies it sounded significantly better.
