I assume that what you mean is - what's the "best" viewing distance (from your eyeballs to the screen) for a 32" set ... correct?

The answer would be that it depends on what variety of set we're talking about ... whether an HDTV-ready set, or a conventional analog one. The difference between the two is the number of "scanning lines" that make up the image. A conventional set will have approximately 480 lines (horizontally across the screen), while an HDTV-ready set will have twice that number.

With a conventional set, the optimum distance will be as close as possible without being able to differentiate the individual lines. Get up close to the set in question so that you CAN see the line structure of the image - then back away until you can no longer see it. That will be the optimum distance. Although it can vary (slightly) from one set to another, it will likely be about 7-8 ft. Of course, you can sit further away than this, but the picture will get smaller as you do, and the involving "home theater" experience will diminish as you go. With an HDTV-ready set, you can sit at any distance because you won't see the line structure no matter how close to the screen you are.

Hope this answers your question - if not ask further
