There's been a lot of hype about the Insignia bookshelf speakers from Best Buy. Kef-like design at prices ranging from about 35.00-49.00 per pair depending on sales. They have them today at 34.99/pair. Shipping will add some but you can opt for store pick up. In my case an additional several dollars for a total of $37.88/pair. If you miss the sale today, keep an eye out. They're likely to go on sale again. I need another pair of speakers like a hole in the head but what the hell. If they live up to the hype, I'll swap them with another pair of speakers in an extra bedroom. If they suck, oh well, lesson learned. See below for a link to this speaker at Best Buy and a link to a DIY mod page for this speaker.

they are DAMNED good for the money and j put them in place of my spendor s3/5s and am not that anxious to swap back except for comparison's sake. i intend to get another pair for my rears so i have identical spks in each corner which is not a bad idea.

they have been getting better daily as far as break in and another trick i may try is stacking them as advents once were.

over at the asylum, there is a lot of chatter on the speaker forum and some even are modifying them.

anyway, i hope i can get a pair for the $35 price today.

Hmm, are those tweeters mounted on the woofer cone? How does that work exactly? I would think that the motion of the woofer would create a doppler effect changing the frequency of the tweeter, but am I thinking of this incorrectly?

...but didn't go through with the sale.

I'm going to put together a little system in the garage, and these seem like the perfect canditate. I was eyeballing an old pair of ARs, asked a few Qs on another forum, and by the time I returned to the thrift shop, they were gone. One would think I would simply pony up the $9. Duh.

My garage isn't finished yet, if it was, I would have been excited enough about the Insigs. They'll be a better fit in there than the BR1s. Just something to listen to whilst waxing the cars or what not.

They were $49 today at BB.

I'll probably wind up with 'em.

I think for sales purposes, insigs (being made for bb mainly) are a worth while buy

well, no. they are mounted CONCENTRICALLY in the middle of the cone. i just put my finger on the cone, then the tweeter diaphragm, no detectable motion in the dome like there is on the cone.

this is one of the reasons the speaker images so nicely.

also, check out the similarities such as dimensions, front panel, carbon fiber cone, and concentric tweeter on this item:

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_13_2/radiient-technologies-europa-speakers-5-2006.html (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_13_2/radiient-technologies-europa-speakers-5-2006.html)

i detect a mistake in that it mentions only one tweeter when there are obviously two. another difference in the rear view of the radient is that it is bi-wirable, and therefore bi-ampable. note the two sets of binding posts.

well, now i have two pair of insignias and have some playing to do. stacking, using the second pair as rears in my dynaquad setup, etc. maybe one day i will try a ribbon tweet on top.

I work at BestBuy and I don't know if these have come in the store yet, I only work there 5 hours a week, but the discount is usually pretty good on Insignia being that it's a house brand. I will have to check them out. I have Klipsch 4.1 computer speakers but maybe these would work better with a Sub thrown in. Hmm.

30.84/pair employee price, and the supplier is listed as "First Audio Mfg Ltd." I actually had to put them on display as they weren't out yet and I wanted to have a look at them. They look nice and were heavier than I expected, but listening tests were not ideal.

What's a bargain sub & surround receiver (w/ optical in) might be a good match?

these speakers improve over time and benefit from continuous play at relatively loud levels. check out the posts at:

this is such a recent post that i hadnt even seen it. kinda timely if you ask me. i have yet to see the speaker on display at BB. only the boxes when i bought my two pair.
