I am currently in the process or calibrating my home theatre with the use of my recently aquired SPL Meter. Built in to my Yamaha RX-V1000 reciever is a 5 band EQ for the center channel. Is it prefered to adjust this EQ to get the Center channel frequency response as close to my mains as possible? Or is there a prefered method? Any insight would be apprieciated!

Run a sweep wave in the frequencies your center speaker operates in. Watch the spl meter, and it it gets louder or softer at certain frequencies, adjust the equalizer so the speakers response is as flat as possible at your listening position.
