They are quite competitive within their respective price classes and you reallly can't go worng. It just might come down to which features you need and/or want. There's no shame in that.

I prefer my Marantz to my Onkyo, but the onkyo (TX-SV646) is 9 years old and still kicking.
Listen to a couple and make sure they have the features you want. Pick what sounds good to you and has the features you want.

Thanks, I am looking a receiver to power at least 2 100+ W floor speakers and a 150W subwoofer (planning to get a Harmon Kardon or Bose woofer).
I'm not just looking something for light listen, I want some thing to revv up King Kong on.

You should really select your speakers first. ...and I didn't know bose made subwoofers.

What speakers book shelf or floor would you recommend, I am thinking a 5.1 surround system, but think I'll start with the 2 front, centre and subwoofer then later the other 2.

If you have a budget for the two front and center speakers and a subwoofer, you might want to state it. Don't keep making us play guessing games. It quickly becomes tiresome.

so, how much for the pair of speakers?

Does that include a center speaker or not? yes or no

How much for a subwoofer?

you are not helping yourself. We know you are buying a pair of speakers, a center channel speaker and a Sub. Just give a budget for each of those. Your are not very consistent in what you are saying...

I don't think Bose makes subs.
