Watched the Rush R30 disc 1 last night.

I was surprised by how similar it was to Rio. As I suspected all along, the point of releasing 2 shows, so similar in tone and from virtually the same place in their careers sure seems gratuitous. Right down to the dryers and vending machines.

Sure, the setlist was different, but c'mon. Far too much similarity in tone for this casual fan.

The performance on Rio is tighter. There were a lot of . . . I won't call them mistakes . . . but Peart seemed behind a lot. Red Barchetta was particularly flubby and weak.

I'll rent disc 2 soon, all that old stuff is probably much more to my taste.

Too many cover tunes on the R30 disc for me

I mean, c'mon, what are they, Manfred Mann all of a sudden

Seems like the drummer's always the first thing to go in these older bands.
