I have Epos ES-11's since 1991. In a way i like the speaker very much. But one thing i never liked, is it's lack of bass, leading to a somewhat "bare" sound.
I would like to have some more, stronger, bass, but not earthshaking. So -3 dB at 40 or 45 Hz is okay for me, not -3 dB at 20 Hz! The Epos has -3 dB at 60 Hz which is also a bit soft.
I only have money for 2nd hand stuff.
Some adviced to me:
- the bigger Epos 14, which can have some problems in the upper mid freq.
- the B + W 805 matrix (or 805, is there one ?) which is told to sound more even.
- the Kef 104-2. I had the Kef 104 aB for years.
Eventually i could replace the valve-amp with a mosfet, or transistor, if needed.
Any advice from someone ?
