V for Vendetta was a graphic novel originally written by alan moore in the early 80's, i think 1981, one of my personal favorite writers and possibly the writer of one of the best pieces of comic 'literature' around, Watchmen, which he wrote after V4V. So for the comic book community, this has some pretty serious footsteps to follow in as the graphic novel is very highly regarded as, next to Watchmen, some of alan moore's best work.
It has a TON of potential given the high quality of the source material, not that that is any guarantee for a good movie cuz they could butcher it (the league of extraordinary gentlemen was also an alan moore graphic novel), but i am hoping the hubris that the wachkowski brothers gained from the first matrix that they used to really put out two crappy sequels has been tempered by the backlash against reloaded and revolutions being so weak. they arent even directing this one, but just written by them and produced by them. it's directed by a first time director, but a guy who worked on all the wachowski movies, and Attack of the Clones... so... he doesnt have the greatest pedigree when it comes to "story development" movies, but he sure knows how to handle action at least!

Also! they are releasing this on the Imax screens as well.... so that's my main incentive to see it! Poseidon is the next release on the Imax screens, and that should be fun too, i hope!

Cool!!! Thanks for the info. Nearest IMAX is like 60 miles from me. It's been years since I've seen anything on IMAX. Yeah I'll probably peep this out. Hopefully the trailers does this movie justice. You never know what your gonna get nowadays. If it's a good popcorn flic, than that's enough to make me happy.

Maybe you have read the same thing, but several reviews that I've seen mention that Moore refused to have his name credited anywhere on the movie. I agree that the potential is there but I really can't imagine any way this wasn't botched given the production team involved.

I got a kick out of City Pages' review (http://www.citypages.com/movies/detail.asp?MID=7742), which begins thusly: "It questions ideologies, it questions government," a Time-Warner exec tells Time-Warner's Entertainment Weekly of Time-Warner's V for Vendetta, available sooner than you'd think on Time-Warner's HBO (call Time-Warner Cable today!)...

I liked this movie a bit, but I think I would have preferred renting it instead of forking out $45 bones to take my wife.
This was a B- movie in my books. Not bad, but nothing special or great. The acting was average. The dialogue had a few brightspots, mostly when "V" was speaking.

The plot was the weak area however. I'm so sick of this story that it ruins movies for me now. The last one to use this same theme was Batman Begins (except Batman was better executed), before that we had Count of Monte Christo, Darkman, and even Gladiator to some extent.
Hero gets a raw deal, wants revenge, and walks awefully close to the dark side along the way. The end.

I enjoyed this movie, however that damn mask really freaks me out, just like the scream mask.
