Hi,

I really love the Dayton speaker cabinets at partsexpress specially with the cherry finish (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=302-712&ctab=4). Attached good pic of the cabinet from DIYCable (http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24_92&products_id=539).

My question is can I use that cabinet with the ar.com design? Has anybody done this?

Thanks in advance for your ideas -
Marduk

Yes and no. You can use them, provided you get the volume and front baffle dimensions as close to the design specs as possible. You might have to tweak a crossover component or two, but I'm guessing many people wouldn't. The problem is you will change the speaker's intended sound a bit as you deviate. Whether it's pleasing or not is up to you.

Madisound sells ar.com cabients. If you're fixed on the Parts Express cabinets, I'd suggest the Pee Creek design from Wayne Jaeschke, which uses the same woofer as the ar.com and a different tweeter for similar costs....

I've built both. I prefer the ar.com to th PeeCreek, but I know others who don't. Both are good designs.

Thanks for the reply kexodusc.

This is my first diy project so - I think I'm going with the complete ar.com kit (+cabinets) from madisound. Then I'll buy my own router and try the Exodus 61 (http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24_92&products_id=539) from DIYCable with cabinet from PE.

Madisound's cabinets look good with the grill on, more of a classic oak appearance, but not bad. Can you cut MDF yourself to build the cabinets? With what you'd save building your own you could buy that router..Cabinets are usually the most expensive part of any kit.
