Hello people am so glad to be posting again. Hope all is well with everyone. I do have a question: I just bought a Yamaha RX-V757 receiver and by all acounts it appears to be a good move when compared to the Yamaha RX-V650 I previously owned. Not so much in terms of power but more in features. However, I have noticed a slight difference in power but everything from the remote to the full version of YPAO on the 757( as opposed to the scaled down version on the 650) seems to be very useful.. I was also giving strong consideration to the Pioneer 1015 but had trouble locating one, So my question is how does the Yamaha RX-V757 compare to the Pioneer 1015???? I really dont care much about the built in XM capability---so other than that did I go wrong by not getting the Pioneer 1015?????? I also just got me a pair of Paradigm Studio 20's v.3 and hope to have the cc-470 v.3 soon. Will use a pair of Atoms v.4 for my rears in the very near future as well. Please answer objectively. Thank you for your time.

Come on people surely there are some members here that has had the chance to compare the Pioneer1015 to the Yamaha RX-V757??? Have I made the right call by buying the Yamaha???? I do know it is an improvement over the Yamaha RX-V650 that I previously owned. Anyways, please comment if you have had the opportunity to compare the Yamaha RX-V757 and the Pioneer 1015.

I don't know much about the Pioneer, but I'm wondering why you replaced the 650. The 757 is a step up from the 650 or this years 657, but I didn't notice too many differences to justify the extra $100. Maybe you have more needs than I do, but I think the 650 would power your Paradigms just fine.

Just wondering.

My first HT reciever was a Yamaha RXV640 - a solid, inexpensive (paid $600 CAN for it) starter reciever. I was super happy with it until I really started to get into HT. I upgraded my speakers from Polk to Jamo, added more stuff to plug into it, and found that it wasn't serving my needs anymore. I had my eyes on an Onkyo TXSR803, but at the $1600 CAN price tag, I couldn't really afford it right now. So, I went with option #2 - a Pioneer VSXD1015TX. I can say without a doubt that this reciever is leaps and bounds better than my trusty Yamaha. Much better sound accross the frequency range, waaaaaay more options, plus it just looks a lot cooler. My money is on the Pioneer at that price range.

EricZ your point has been well taken BUT I did not have to give an extra $100 for the 757. In fact, the deal I got was just too good to pass up and that is the only reason I bought it instead of the Pioneer1015. Also, the 650 only upconverted to S-video whereas the 757 up converts fully to component video. The 757 also includes the full version of YPAO wheres the 650 or the 657 does not. There is also a big difference in the remotes and the 650 does not have built in XM cpability. But you do make a very good point if I did have to pay the extra money--if I did I would not have bought the 657 or the 757 but got the Pioneer 1015 instead.

evil I dont know much about the 640 BUT by most accounts I believe the 757 has more features than the Pioneer 1015. For example, the X-over is fixed at 80Hz on the 1015 whereas the 757 has multiple X-over points which can add some significant tweaking capability. This is not to say the 757 is better over all but for what I gave for it anyone would be hard pressed to find a better receiver for the money. Therefore, I guess a better question would be how much better is the Pioneer1015 with respect to the YamahaRX-V757????

Actually, the 1015 does have many difference x-over points - 50, 80, 100, 150 and 200. However, it is all up to your ears. Is it better than the 757? Honestly, I haven't heard that model, so I don't know for sure. But I know it sounds much better than my Yamaha.

Evil it sounds like to me that either of the two receivers would be fine by most standards. Personally, if I had not gotten such a good deal on the 757 I would have w/o a doubt, opted for the Pioneer1015. For now, I think I am happy with my purchase. Thanks for the info.
