Not that kind...
I've burnt a few CDs with my new computer and I'm using Easy CD Creator v6. Anyone have this program?
My computer is brand new and two CDs I've burnt so far has had all kinds of problems. I tried burning at high speeds and that was a disaster. But I've encountered problems (such as screetching, skipping, drop out) even at speeds as low as 8x, and I used to use that speed with my much older computer.
I'm using Exact Audio Copy for ripping.
Is Easy CD Creator v6 a piece of crap or something?
This was the last thing I expected with a new computer

I've used it since I got my Dell, oh, 4 or 5 years ago. It's worked great until recently. Now I can't burn anything, and so I have had to use Windows Media Player instead, which is one of the lamest programs ever. At least it works, and I think this may have something to do w/ the fact I can select a slower burn speed.
I think my trouble started right after a Microsoft update, and then Roxio wouldn't work anymore. I even bought an upgrade w/ no luck. Also bought another program called Burn 'n' Go X, which is super easy to use, but still wouldn't burn the end product.
Sorry I can't help, just commiserating.

I've used EZCD Creator before. Not really too impressed with it. When burning wav files, I use Feurio (its free) and been around a long time, http://www.feurio.com/ When burning/converting from mp3's I use Nero. But before going too much further I recommend trying a different brand of cdr's. Could be you got a bad batch or maybe your player/recorder just doesn't deal well with your current brand of discs, not all that uncommon. I've never burned a coaster using Verbatim cdr's, even burning at 40x.

Does it depend on the disk being copied? Could be a subtle copy-protection measure.

I've never run across a disc with any copyright protection, but yeah, they're out there. It'd be easy enough to test by trying to dupe an older cd.

right now I'm using Kyper media CD-Rs...have you used these?

right now I'm using Kyper media CD-Rs...have you used these?I haven't. Recently, I've only been buying two brands, Verbatim and Imation. They seem to work for me, are usually easy to find locally, and I can get them for about 18 cents per disc. But as Andy McFadden implies, YMMV.

Ctrl - Alt - Delete to pull up the task manager and find out if something is hogging your processor. Have you tried burning with EAC? I usually use it if I'm just doing a copy since I use it for ripping. But if I'm doing a comp I usually just use Roxio that came with my computer since it has a more friendly interface for loading songs and moving them around. Have you verified that the songs actually ripped OK by listening from your hard drive, or checking the wav files with an editor such as the freebie Audacity or the one included with EAC?
Anyway, some stores load a ton of software crap on your computer when you buy it and it's all set up to run in the background until you turn all the stupid crap off. Or you might have some virus hogging your new machine if you've been practicing anything unsafe while alone with your toy ;)

I have McAfee...the only places I've been to are corperate websites like this one. I do not, nor do I plan to, use anything like I-Mesh or any file sharing network like that. I don't do a lot of surfing or downloading. And I don't visit those kinda sites, though, not because of any moral convictions. Its because that's how my useless step-son F'd up my old computer. Go figure, viruses on porn sites. I think the last time I was able to scan that computer it had 42 viruses and worms on it. But, I digress...
I haven't used EAC for ripping, but most of the time I'm making comps. I've used EZCD Creator in the past with nominal success. The faulty tracks in question sound fine when played through the computer from the hard drive. And the discs are usually good through 2/3 of the disc. I'm going to buy some different blank CD-Rs to see if I have a bad batch of blanks. I had a bad lot a few years ago, so I know its possible. There still a few other things I can do to isolate it yet, I just wanted to save some time incase anyone were to know of any known problems and their fixes/patches.
I hope its not hardware related because, well, I've done without long enough damn it! But in hindsite, this is the part of the computer world I didn't miss...the dreaded glitches.

Three things:
1 - Quit pogoing around while the burning is taking place -- it'll make the CD burning process skip, which is relatively fatal (relative to playing back -- it just skips once, but the disk is fine, whereas during the burning process it is irretrievable).
2 - As Dave has already suggested, make sure there are no extraneous processes running. Back when my burner was working, I logged off the internet, physically disconnected, and turned off security before I started burning.
3 - My burner doesn't work. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

So, you know you're ripping the songs to your hard drive without errors. The problem, as I see it lies somewhere here:
1. Some program is hogging too much of the system resources (as stated above). But if you have a newer pc and at least 512mb ram, this seems unlikely to me. Especially if you aren't running some memory or cpu hog of an application. Could be malicious code that you don't know about I guess.
2. The cd burner is possibly defective. Do actual store-bought cds play ok? Do only burned cdr's fail? If so, then chances are the drive is ok.
3. Media/drive incompatability. To me a most likely scenario. There's a reason Kyper Media discs sell at rock bottom prices.
As an aside, I build my own pcs, out of decent components (certainly not top of the line though). I have an AMD 1.53GHz cpu and 512 mb ram...obviously no speed merchant. I make sure my drive firmware and system bios is kept up to date. In the past I have been running full system scans with Symantec Corporate Edition Antivirus, surfing the web, and burning a cdr at 40x....all at the same time without a problem.

So, you like to rub it in, eh?
:p
I'll know more by tomorrow (I work nights) when I try the new discs, which makes sense to me that they're the culprit since its the same problem over and over again.
My 'puter is an E-machine, with AMD 3100 processor (1.8 Ghz) w/ 256meg ram; the media drive is a DVDrom/CD-RW burner combo.
And I never try to burn and surf at the same time. And I tried 4x speed with the same results. I was having a hard time with the prospect that an entire stack of discs could be bad, but a co-worker told me that he'd encountered entire 100 packs that he couldn't burn anything on, and was ready to take his burner out when he decided to just try a different brand from one of his buddy's, and bingo, it worked. At least the computer is new enough that if is hardware, it'll be covered.

I remember 5 years ago when I first started burning, I thought I'd try both Nero and EZCD Creator. I already had EZCDv5, but wanted to try Nero, so when I loaded Nero, both programs go nuckin futs, and EZCD would only perform when Nero was thoroughly removed using an after market disc clean-up program (It bugged me that Nero could entrench itself in my hardrive and be such a bugger to remove).

You know, this is my first computer with XP, so you may have a point. I remember seeing a lot of crap I didn't use at the bottom of the screen.

I do seem to remember a few years back that there was a problem with two burning programs not playing well when installed together. I want to say it was Nero and EZCD, but I'm not certain. A google search will probably shed light here. At any rate, I have Nero and EZCD Creator V7 (need this for one project I have), both installed, as well as several other burning/ripping programs. No problems with any of them, so if it was a Nero and EZCD conflict its been resolved.

Hehe, no, not at all. I was just pointing out that I have a very average pc and the hardware doesn't seem, in any way, to be effecting my cd burning.
Please do let us know how you make out with the different brand of cdr's.

bad blank media!
Purchased new blanks (Sony CD-R) at my local all-nite Walmart (thanks Sam).
Works...I went back to the Khyper media discs just to make sure the problem didn't just go away...and the problem returned.
And now I will pay more attention to the blank media I buy.
a big THANKS!!! to all who contributed ideas and suggestions.

Glad to hear it since that's a simple an inexpensive fix.
BTW - I like your sig, and love the song. It's a shame he left us at such a young age.
