rug could make dialogue harder to understand? My system was perfect (used SPL and what not to calibrate it) and it sounded great....then we added a 10' x 13' rug to the room to cover about 75% of the hardwood floors and I swear it is harder to make out dialogue...i would think that something like a rug that reduces reflections would make things clearer and crisper. Before getting the rug, the center channel wasn't even tilted down towards sitting position, but now I have tilted it (looks crappy) and only a slight improvement was made....could putting the rug down screwed up the calibrations to the channels to the point that I need to pull out the SPL and check everything again????

The short answer is: yes, of course. Any time you make changes to the equipment or acoustics in a room, you need to pull out your trusty spl meter and get crackin' or tonin', whichever you wish to call it.
