I enjoy music and movies equally . What is the difference between using one or the other?

The number of cables you'll have to use. If you go with analog cables, you'll need a DVD player with 5.1 analog out to send the decoded signal to your AVR for surround sound. With a coaxial cable, a single cable will send the signal to your AVR and it will do the decoding. Your AVR is gonna have better bass management over your DVD player.

Yes, in addition, if you have a good receiver, you have the ability to access any cool DSP's your receiver may offer in addition to better bass management when going with digital coax or toslink. The onboard D/A conversion on the preamp/receiver will most likely be better as well.

Prevailing audio wisdom states that if you have a high end player, like a dream player from Arcam, then you go with the analog because it will have superior digital to analog conversion, but if you have an ordinary player (like a lot of us do) then your receiver or preamp should have at least as good as but most likely better dac, so then go with digital.
