What does the cotton wadding inside many speaker cabinets/enclosures do for the sound/speaker? I found it recently even in the BOSE enclosures for the system in my vehicle.

What does the cotton wadding inside many speaker cabinets/enclosures do for the sound/speaker? I found it recently even in the BOSE enclosures for the system in my vehicle.

...damping material used to make the cabinet more inert, among other things...deadens extraneous vibrations...it's there for a reason and it's most likely fiberglass, so use caution when handling it...wash up thoroughly...
