Hooking up Marantz DV-6400??

I am cabling a Marantz DV-6400 to a Denon AVR-4800 and wonder if I have to chose what kind of playback I want to hear via onscreen menu (ie SACD -2 channel, SACD -5.1 or DVD- AUDIO etc). Any one who owns a 6400 and has done this let me know, since I have it cabled and am only getting 2 channel audio not 5.1 sound. I have a simple RCA coax going out from the 6400 to a small TV to get the on screen display which DOES NOT show up. What am I doing wrong here? Is there a setup menu I should be going through?

Okay, first off, a little clarification. When you say RCA coax, I assume you mean a single analog cable with RCA connectors going from the video out on the 6400 to your tv, correct? If that's the case, check to make sure your tv settings are correct. You should be getting a picture of a trumpet with the Marantz and DSD logos on top of it. If you're getting that, then press the "setup" button on your remote, and you can do everything from there. If it's not that then you may have a defective output on the 6400 or defective input on the tv. I have mine cabled to my tv the exact same way you do, and have no problems seeing the OSD.
Is the display on the front of your 6400 working? If you're not seeing anything on that, then try pressing the "audio ex" button. When it's engaged it turns off all video circuitry, including the display on the front of 6400 itself.

If you figure out how to see the OSD, then here's how to change the default settings of the player. Go to "custom" then "audio", you need to set the "analog" settings to 5.1 channel. The SACD default setting is 5.1, so no need for adjustment there. As far as I can tell there are no settings to select for DVD-A. But if your "analog" setting is stuck on 2-channel, then obviously your player is only outputting through the front L and R analog outs.
If you can't get your display to work at all, let me know. I can try to walk you through the steps you take with your remote to do all that.
