Hey guys! First post here!
Well, I am from Brazil and as you know all electronics here are pretty expensive!!
I have a big room (200mĀ³) and my current system is a Yamaha AV540 (100Wrms x 6), a huge JBL 15" subwoofer (wich I want to keep) and 8 Acoustic Research speakers (2 front + 1 center + 2 side surround + 2 Back surround + 1 back surround), wich are all too poor in my opinion. I really would like to UPGRADE my system. I would like to buy a pair of JBL E-100, a center JBL EC-35 and a pair of JBL E-50 for surround, and keep my 15" subwoofer. What do you think? Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help, guys!
see ya!

Nah, the latest rage is 10.2. Even though there is but one piece of software you can play on it, everyone just has to have a 10.2 system. 8.1 is just too "yesterday".

I don't think one is better than the other. If you have the room for a large speaker system, then go for it. If you don't have the room, then a sub-sat system would probably be better for you. Going from 5.1 to 6.1(no such thing as a 7.1 for consumers at least yet) is a matter of room size. If you have a large room with the L/R surrounds pretty far apart, then a center rear speaker(or two) would greatly fill in the sonic hole in the rear.

I thought 11.4 was the way to go.

Naw G,
Tests found that 11.4 caused brain spin when signals are panned from speaker to speaker around the room. People began to vomit, get dizzy, pass out, and some folks got the shingles. There were even reports of people breaking their necks tryin to do the Linda Blair thing by spinning their heads around. No, 11.4 is quite dangerous.

This explains a lot. I thought I just had a cold. But now I know.

7.1 versus 5.1:

(7.1 - 5.1) / 7.1 = .359

It's 35.9% better.

Lots of receivers have 7.1 channels, but there are no DVD's that come in 7.1. The most is 6.1 so far.
The receivers send the 6 (back) channel to 2 rear speakers to make 7.1, this tends to work better than just 1 back speaker.

I would advise getting the best 5.1 system you can get first before jumping into 7.1. I think you'd enjoy higher quality speakers more than the 7.1 surround effect. I like 7.1 better, but having better speakers would probably provide more satisfaction to most.

You can always save your money and buy the last 2 speakers later.
