View Full Version : Onkyo's TX-DS797 and M282 Volume Control?
I have an Onkyo TX-DS797 Receiver driving my home theater setup and recently added the Onkyo M282 2 channel amp to drive my remote or zone 2 speakers. After installation and hookup, the only way I can control the volume to zone 2 is with the line input control located on the back of the M282. The 797 remote control does not allow me to adjust the zone 2 volume. I can't imagine that this was the design intent. While I do have volume control through the M282 line input dial, the max volume is only modest in output. Can anyone confirm that zone 2 volume is controlled through the amp or the receiver?

According to page 21 of the owners guide the zone 2 output is at a fixed volume.

I've read pages 21 and 54 and the M282 manual looking over and over for that nugget that gets it to operate like I think it should. One should have freedom of control over volume without having to pull the amp out to adjust the input level control located on the back. If the input level control is a volume control then why not locate on the front? In my opinion this is a serious limitation.
Page 21 states "the zone 2 out terminal is a constant ouput"...does this mean the output is controlled by the volume on the 797? What does it mean? Do you have this setup?

No,it is not contolled by the receiver's volume control.
