First off, welcome to the forum!

Please forgive my ignorance, but who is "HGP"? Is this an Internet direct brand? I guess I just have never heard them before...

As for the VA Mozarts, those I have heard of, and have *heard*. I am sorry to say that I did not care much for their sound though. I felt they were just too polite for my personal tastes. It was not that they really got much wrong, It was moreso that they did not pull me into the music, or make the performance come alive. I described them to the salesman as "lifeless." Your tastes and experience with them may vary though...

What size room do you have, and what are your music preferences? Also, are these going to be solely used for music? If you can answer these questions, I think many of the folks around here will be able to help you.

Hi there,

Hmmm not really sure. They have a site, which may help if you know more about the tech side of speakers than I do.

Will be doing a comparison tomorrow VA vs HGP Donas' so can report.

As for the room its our living room here, about 40 sq M I guess.

Only music, I am afraid our other systems are a bit oldish !

I listen to everything from Latin Music, through classics to radiohead. I am looking more for clarity and depth than actual big sounds if I had to put it in a nutshell.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm...

Maybe consider adding some of the following speakers to your audition list:

Opera Audio Consonance Eric-3s at $1800/pr.
Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Floorstanding Monitor at $1850/pr. (Internet direct only)
Tyler Acoustics Freedom F-4 Floorstander at $1650/pr. (Internet direct only)
Tyler Acoustics Freedom F-5 Floorstander at $2400/pr. (Internet direct only)
Von Schweikert VR-2 Floorstanders at $2500/pr.

Used, the following are also in your budget:

Merlin Pendragon mk. 3 (approx. $2200/pr. used)
Joseph Audio Signature 25si (approx. $1750/pr. used)
Von Schweikert VR4.5 (approximately $2200/pr. used)

You can find a good selection of used speakers on Audiogon.com

Good luck with your auditions!

If I may throw my 2 cents in, I'd say give Dynaudio's a listen, whichever model fits your budget. I'd say they offer great clarity, although they do need proper amplification to get the most out of them. I've listened to Vienna's before and for that price point, I'd still go with Dynaudio.

Hi there,

Ok just back from the audio ' dition. I ended up buying the HGP Donas on the quality of the sound and for around US 1500 they really were engaging much more so than the VAs' . As an amateur I would say I could tell the music was coming out of the VAs, but with the HGPs the speakers were not even there.

Running this off a Diva One pre-amp, Modified Marantz CD 63 and Rotel 1070 with TS Lim supplied cables on all.

Maybe one day someone else will have some comments on the HGPs.

Thanks again for the help !
