How about Maxus ...anyone familiar with this brand? are they any good?
is thicker cable (12 gauge) really better than regular 16 gauge?

From what i understand it depends on how far the source has to transmit the signal. So 12guage has an easier time transmitting a signal 50ft than an 18guage wire, it also puts less stress on the source to push the signal through a thicker wire. Check this link out, i found it helpful.

For something like 10 feet, no. One-Hundred feet, yeah. Assuming you aren't driving 1 ohm speakers.
Not familiar with Maxus.
