In responding to another post asking how you got started in HT (fun post by the way) I realized how many old components I have in my office closet. Here is my list of my electronic graveyard.

luxman cassette deck circa 1985
DISH satellite reciever
Bozack speakers with sub circa 1984
parasound preamp circa 1994
parasound cd player circa 1994

Mit 26" tv in my rec room but not plugged in
B&O turntable in my bedroom to look at but not play

so why do we keep our old stuff if we are never going to use it again. my guess is for the sentimental value as it would be a shame to sell anything for a measly $20 or so

do others hold on to their old unused components?

My antique equipment is why Ebay & Goodwill have done so well over the years. :D

I still have a few. Everything works except the Sony.

Four home made speakers (basement)
A Jenson 10" sub (basement)
A Tevion HTIB (closet)
Pioneer 80w 2 channel stereo from 1987 (basement)
Pioneer 6 disc CD changer, 1987 (basement)
Panasonic 25w 2channel receiver with a built in 8-track recorder from 1974 (garage duty)
Asorted boom boxes & small radios (closset)
25" Sanyo TV from 1981 (basement)
Panasonic casset player, 1977 (basement)
Sony VHS, 1997 (doesn't play tapes, in use as a TV tuner, in basement)
Sears AM/FM casset player, 1982 (kitchen)
Garard record changer, 1977 (basement)
Technics direct drive turntable with $200 cart., 1982 (basement)
Yamaha YHT-755 HTIB, (bedroom)

The rest is still used in my main system.

I sold a bunch of stuff to get up some money for my new speakers, but I still got some stuff laying around.

4 Yamaha bookshelves(I gave one away to a friend to use as a center)
RCA CD/MP3 player
JVC AVR
Sanyo DVD player
2 Sony towers and a Sony center
Nintendo
Dreamcast
A couple of PCs

All this stuff is sitting in my bedroom. I am SHOCKED my wife has not complained yet. I was using all this stuff but we had to downsize in order to buy a house. Before we moved I had a HT setup in our main room, bedroom and garage. Those days are over now.

In the closet:
Yamaha two channel receiver (1993)
Boston Acoustic HD8 Speakers (1993) - Still one of my favorites
Panasonic Quad receiver (circa 1973)
Panasonic (Techinics) Speakers (1973)
Pioneer Turntable (1994)
Teac EQ (1983?)
Kenwood CDP (Maybe one of the first they ever made. never cared too much to look into it, but the model number is like "CDP 1" which makes me think its pretty early.)
Rat Shack 8 track (Foghat anyone?)
Akia reciever (1983?)
Infinity RS 2000 Speakers (1992? succumbed to foam rot)

I'm too cheap to get rid of any of it. Hell, sometimes I think VHS is poised to make a comeback. :D

OK, that is just way too organized. And how do you remember all the model numbers?

B&W DM7 loudspeakers
ERA turntable with Grace 707 tonearm
Phase Linear 400 amp
Apt Holman preamp
Why keep 'em? Mainly never got around to selling them while they still hand resale value.

Actually, the Apt Holman is still in use as a phono stage only, (feeding my Bel Canto). As for the Phase Linear, someday I might build a pair of subwoofer and use that to drive them.

I actually buy (and very occasionally sell!) so much stuff that i keep a history of it all in a spreadsheet!
