For any Monk and/or Coltrane fans this new release is a must have. It was recorded during a brief period when the two giants were touring together in 1957 but lost in archives until discovered recently and released by Blue Note records.
It features mostly Monk's compositions...some his more familiar (Blue Monk, Epistrophy,
anc Crepescule with Nellie) but a couple compositions I wasn't as familiar with that are equally stunning. Coltrane's playing is in top form...well phrased and smooth as silk,
well before his bizzare mid 60's abstract period and Monk is Monk. Recording quality is outstanding for this period and the crowd is completely under control. No wasted time in between pieces...it just flows from one track to the next.
