The "Gale" name is now owned by a different Company to its original designers and none of its models for years have been anything like the original , legendary Gale speakers . Basically it is now a brand put on speakers made by what-ever company that is able to meet the market niche that the current Gale owner decides to aim at . The speakers are no better or worse than many others in the particular market area - basically they are "average" . Mordaunt Short also now have a different owner to their originators , but are still basically a speaker design Company and are one up on Gale most of the time .
What is good for HT and music listening depends on the types of music , and types of recordings within each music category , that you want to listen to , and how well you want the recordings to be reproduced as a trade-off against your available budget and other expectations such as speaker size and appearance . You will need to give more details about such to enable forum readers to usefully respond . Alternately , I recommend that you listen to the Gale and M.Short models you can afford in comparisons with as many of the other brands that Forum members regularly post about , and with an amplifier of the same power output as your Marantz if you are not able to audition all the speakers with that Marantz model . best wishes , Chris .

thanks chris, already bought the MS-THX502 floor standers. no regrets now. they sound superb paired with a Marantz.
