I have a Toshiba DVD recorder that I'm having a problem with the auto-clock feature. It is set via a signal from the local PBS station, but the set time on the DVD is about 6 seconds slow. I can tell this 2 ways.

1 - I can watch the time on the recorder change from one minute to the next and compare it to the time displayed on the TV GUIDE channel provided by the cable company - it is off by about 6 seconds.

2 - I miss the first 5-6 seconds of the TV programs I record when I use the timer recorder feature. For example, many of the programs I record start exactly at 10:00, while the recorder doesn't start until 6 seconds later.

Any ideas as to what's going on here?

My guess is that the clock sending the signal is 6 seconds off or the VCR takes 6 seconds to process the signal and set the clock. Most people probably aren't bothered by the 6 seconds.

If you program the VCR manually, you could set your start time a minute early. Or you could probably turn off the auto clock set feature in the setup menu and set the clock manually.

We have frequent power failures in this area (new costruction/overbuilding/etc). Most only last a few seconds, but long enough to screw up the clock on the device. The auto-clock was one of the features I was looking for to make my life easier. I've resorted to setting the program start time to 1 minute before the scheduled start of the show so I don't miss the first 6 seconds of storyline. One thing I'm considering is manually setting the clock and getting a computer battery backup for the DVD to ride out the power outages.
